A Small Arrangement

Marianne Selwyn’s fourteen paintings consider the arrangements by which a household reveals its character: a chair drawn close to the fire, a vase set beside a letter, a ribbon placed on a table and not put away.

Working in thin layers of oil, Selwyn makes ceremony from the overlooked object. Her rooms are measured but never empty; every surface has witnessed a conversation.

The exhibition asks what remains when the guests have departed and the house begins to remember.
